So we're at my third Huancayo meeting, wrapping up the weekend here. It's been really great this weekend. We celebrated three birthdays of fellow Volunteers last night. One of them had funfetti cake mix sent to them along with the icing, and we got to eat it last night after a homemade dinner. We made Cesear salad and tacos with actual ground beef. During the absolutely wonderful dinner, we had Jose Cuervo Black shots since one of the birthday girls requested it. After that, we headed to a dance club to get some dance on. It was some of the most fun I've had here.
This work week, the Municipality let me ride around in one of their vehicles with a loud speaker attached to it. The Muni worker driving also was the one using the microphone advertising my next Recycling Buy. It was so fun, and I couldn't believe it was happening because I didn't present any paperwork to get it done. We talked about it after my first Buy, and then we just DID it! That's so not what my experience of Peruvian culture has been so far. I also visited that worker's home briefly to see his greenhouse. It was very inspiring; I really want to get one built and start growing things. I also got a Solicitud document presented to them to get them to buy recycling bins for each office in their building, just for white paper. But you know its a start, and they use a TON of white paper. I'm hoping to take this sorting of trash in stages. They'll slowly get used to saving their recycling to sell me monthly, and get in the habit of throwing it in special bins. Eventually, I'll ask them to put recycling bins out and about in Vicco to start publicly recycling too. Cross your fingers for me!
I haven't read your blog in quite some time... I suppose I should have looked to see what you eat! I'm sorry to hear your host mom is a meanie... It sounds like things are looking up though. Keep on keeping on and don't let any of those people keep you down! I have a feeling I will the butt of many jokes when I head to Vietnam for our vacation because I appear Vietnamese (not to mention my last name actually is Vietnamese) but I won't be able to speak it. :/
